Fishermen's paradise! Located on Mattawoman Creek, a tributary of the Potomac River, Smallwood State Park offers a unique mix of history and unsurpassed boating conveniences. This park was named after General William Smallwood, a Revolutionary War officer and fourth governor of Maryland. His plantation house, Smallwood's Retreat, has been restored and open to visitors. The 628-acre park offers a 50-boat slip marina, boat launching ramps, picnic and camping areas, pavilions, a recycled tire playground and nature trails. |

ALCOHOL POLICY: The consumption or possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage will be prohibited in all state park areas with the exception of interior areas of full-service cabins and motorhomes. Alcohol permits will only be issued through a reservation for a designated shelter, or other approved facility. A $35 fee will be charged for each alcohol permit and must be obtained 1-day out prior to arrival. Permits may be revoked for cause by Park Manager, their designee or a Natural Resources Police Officer. Internet shelter reservations requiring an alcohol permit will need to contact the Call Center at 1-888-432-2267, Mon-Fri, 8 am - 8 pm to make your reservation.
